Move Photos
The goal is to move a set of photos for a day’s activities from a cell phone (or, better, the mirrored set available on the cloud) to a folder on your local computer.
This process begins by identifying the photo using photos.google.com and moving the photos to be moved into a Album.
Here are the steps:
- Click Album.
- Click Create Album.
- Give the album a title.
- Click Select Photos.
- Go through your collection and select the photos to download (click the checkmark in the corner). Click Done when finished.
The Takeout process next involves Google packing the Album photos into a zip file that can be downloaded. If you have a lot of photos, this will involve multiple zip files. You need to unzip the files once the images are moved. There is some delay as Google does the file packing into the zip structure.
Here are the steps:
- Go to takeout.google.com.
- Click Deselect all.
- Scroll down to Google Photos.
- Put a checkmark in the box for Google Photos.
- Click on All photo albums included.
- Click Deselect all, then click to put a checkmark in the box for the album you want to move. Then click OK (upper right corner).
- Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on Next Step.
- Make sure you choose Export once. Then click on Create export.
Finally, you’ll get an email when the export is done. The email has instructions on what to do next. This involves a few menu clicks.
The downloaded images will be in a .zip file in your download folder. You can unzip the file (right click on the name). Then you should move the photos to a separate named folder where you are running the R software.
